Nicholas Vladimir Polunin

Nicholas Polunin was born in 1909. In 1936 while at the Gray Herbarium, Polunin briefly described the scrapbook in an article he wrote for the New England Botanical Club. Polunin's major contribution was updating the specimen identifications used in the scrapbook when it was first compiled (early 1850s). Polunin, as well as a few others at the Gray Herbarium, identified plants that the original collectors could not. Polunin died in 1997. Polunin's descrption and annotations both in the book itself and in his journal article were a valuable resource. We were able to build upon the work done in 1936 to develop our own project.
